Here’s why should you come meet and network with Tintswalo Cassandra MAKHUBELE…

An umbrella body for Non Profit Organisations (NPO’s), the South Africa Congress of Non Profit Organisations (SACONO) was publicly launched at the Parktonian Hotel in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. The founding of this umbrella body was welcomed by the National Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini and her counterpart in Gauteng Nandi Mayathula-Khoza. Addressing delegates at the launch, Mayathula-Khoza said “there is a need for the Gauteng Department of Social Development to support this initiative because it will create an enabling environment for the NPO sector”.

SACONO was founded in 2012 with the aim of creating a national umbrella body for Non-Profit Organisations. It was mandated to do advocacy, capacitated NPOs and to lobby government on behalf of the sector.  “Government alone cannot address all the social problems, but with the support of these NPOs, South Africa will be a better country.” said Mayathula-Khoza.
Since that successful launch back in 2013, SACONO has become the « Voice of the Voiceless » closing the vacuum between the South African government and communities, assisting in implementing policy and strategy aligned to their day to day activities per geographic spread. Up to this day, this NPO acting as a collective aligns the mobilization strategy to the communications and resource mobilization strategy and facilitates the implementation of programmes with a view to influence the development agenda, to promote civil society outreach and to mobilize civil society support.
SACONO, General Secretary Tintswalo Makhubele lobbies the business to fund the sector and represents the executive director in carrying out their mission. Leading this movement for the past fourteen years now, she administers the day –to-day business affairs of SACONO, keeps assets and accounts of the organization, maintains contact with Members and other stakeholders, prepares funding proposals as well as preparing and implementing a fundraising strategy for SACONO.
This year, she will be represent SACONO at the 1st annual TROPICS BUSINESS SUMMIT, after returning from South Korea where she supervised the implementation of organisational projects and programmes in line with agreements with international partners and donors and SACONO’s strategic plan, Constitution and other governance document.
“This movement also helps the government in terms of reducing strikes, and reaches out deeply in the rural areas where there is a least number of sustainable NPOs that lack visibility”, Makhubele added.
